Did you know that 65% of prison inmates have dyslexia? The cost of education is expensive, but the cost of illiteracy impacts more than we know. A state back east uses the illiteracy rate of third graders to determine how many prisons to build! Let’s change the literacy rate and determine how many colleges we’ll need!
$225 Billion is the cost to the U.S. economy by lost productivity, crime, and loss of tax revenue due to unemployment that stems from illiteracy. (July, 1998)
Of 8 Million preschool children, 50% are unprepared when they enter First Grade (Zill and West, 2001)
32 million Adults can’t read, and 42 million adults read below thee 5th grade level. Reading failure limits their future employment success. (National Assessment Educational Progress, 2013).
These same students are 4 times less likely to graduate from high school (American Education Research, 2011).
Let me tell you exactly what you can do to help reduce our reading crisis in this nation:
Your donation will help reduce our reading crisis by supporting/training teachers that seek the extra professional training they need to work with dyslexic students. Your sponsorship, whether monthly or a one-time gift will reduce or remove the tuition expenses associated with teacher training.
